Current Events

I don't usually speak of current events but a spy never actually retires. In case you have been living under a rock, there is a royal wedding about to happen. The spies of MI5 (see earlier post) are busy dealing with the real potential threat of the IRA disrupting the wedding. The UK has been dealing with them (or splinter groups) for years and, although a formal ceasefire was declared in 1972, they are still active. We just do not hear much from MI5 just as we purposefully keep the average person in the dark as far as terrorist actions here in the US (what? you thought those gas explosions and train derailments were from the reasons actually reported in the news?) A last note on the IRA is that it does not help that the wedding is so close to Easter. That's when the Official IRA actually began!

What else? Busy Busy Busy. Officers of the Agency have their areas of specialty Middle East, North Korea, China, etc. Those in the middle east have been quite busy along with their agents and other assets with Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, Yemen, Syria (and others not so well known). We finally got the go ahead for drone use in Libya. And it is true, no official "boots to the ground", yet. However, the Special Operations Group has been busy. With careful wording by the government and careful clandestine operations, you will probably not have "military" boots to the ground.
